Would you like to feel more in tune with yourself, to discover more about who you are and what you want from life? To feel more equipped to deal with the challenges that life brings your way? To make better choices? To feel at peace...

If you're visiting this page, then it's possible that you are currently experiencing some issues that are preventing you from leading the life you want to lead, or being the person you truly want to be.

I am a Christian and a counsellor trained in the person-centred approach with cognitive behavioural skills and an EMDR Level 3 therapist. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and an accredited member of the Association of Christian Counsellors so you can be assured of an accepting, knowledgeable and professional counsellor who will be with you through your therapeutic experience.

The first time we meet is generally known as an initial meeting, for obvious reasons! And it's an opportunity for me to explain what counselling is; I rather like "an intentionally helpful conversation" but, of course, I will go into far more detail so you will have as much information as possible to help you make an informed decision. I will explain what I can safely offer in terms of confidentiality, and it's a time for you to decide whether you can work with me and whether counselling is the right decision for you at this time of your life.
I hope you find a way through your difficulties and if you choose to contact me I look forward to meeting and supporting you as you find a better way of being.

I’m a humanistic counsellor which means I believe in the innate capacity within us all to continuously expand our potential through living, learning, healing and growth. I trust we each have the resources within us to thrive in life, though appreciate it can be very difficult to connect with our own abilities or escape patterns of being that keep us stuck. As a counsellor I offer my experience to support your journey, perhaps in reuniting with yourself or perhaps discovering and harnessing inner resources you haven’t previously recognised in yourself. I work in a collaborative and creative way drawing on a range of theories, techniques, and styles tailored to you and your situation, in the hope of offering you a safe space, where you feel supported, accepted and free to be in whilst you address the complexities that could be stopping you from living the life you would like.

As well as offering private practise counselling I teach for the Open University and have worked within schools, colleges, alternative education settings, youth engagement services and various counselling charities. I’m a mother, daughter, sister, friend and colleague, I’m passionate about nature and I strongly believe we could do with more compassion, love and connection in our world…and like you maybe? I am a person trying to make sense of the world during the pandemic we are in the midst of. Which really means; I understand, personally, professionally and academically how it feels when we find ourselves overwhelmed, believing we are ill equipped to deal with life, and that change is most definitely possible no matter how far away it feels

Dr Karen Mason

ClinPsyD; C Psychol; Memb Inst.GA

I am a Clinical Psychologist with more than twenty years’ experience of working in NHS Adult Mental Health Services. From 2002 up until my retirement from the NHS in 2016, I was employed as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
I have experience of working with a wide range of presenting problems at all levels of complexity. My primary psychotherapeutic approach is psychodynamic but I have longstanding experience of other therapeutic models which I use as required.
If you decide that you would like to attend for a consultation, I will do my best to answer any question you may have. I will ask about your reasons for seeking help and also about your history/life experiences as this can help greatly in identifying the factors that may be relevant to current symptoms or difficulties. We would then consider if therapy could be helpful to you and if so, agree what the focus of the work might be and talk a bit about what it would involve.
